By Immaculée Ilibagiza
In the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide, Immaculée Ilibagiza found herself a widow with four young children. Her husband and extended family had been brutally murdered, and she had been forced to flee her home. In the midst of this unimaginable tragedy, Immaculée found hope and healing through her work with the women of her community.
In 2005, Immaculée founded the Association des Femmes Unies et Actives du Rwanda (AFUAR),an organization that provides support and empowerment to women who have been affected by violence. AFUAR's work includes providing counseling, job training, and microfinance loans. The organization also runs a restaurant, which provides a safe and supportive space for women to gather and share their stories.
Love, Hope, and a Restaurant in Rwanda is Immaculée's memoir of her journey from survivor to healer. In the book, she shares her story of loss, grief, and hope. She also describes the work of AFUAR and the impact that it has had on the lives of thousands of women.
Love, Hope, and a Restaurant in Rwanda is a powerful and inspiring story of healing and empowerment. It is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of community. Immaculée's story is a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope.
